Robert Newcomb has been a member of the Republican Party most of his life. However, recent events in politics have changed his core political loyalties. Robert has spent a career as a DoD engineer fixing problems and he feels that politicians only talk about it. Robert feels it is because he is not a politician, he can bring clarity on how to fix things to Washington. Being directly related to some of the founding fathers of the United States, Robert believes that when we consider the writings of our forefather’s - there is great wisdom when we listen to them and apply their counsel or wisdom. Many of the founding fathers wrote the Constitution and Declaration of Independence because they had experienced and knew that governments of the world have a disposition to oppress and subjugate the people they govern.

The U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights was clearly made to preserve and help keep corruption from migrating into the federal government. President Washington, in his Farewell Address in 1796, accurately predicted the trouble that would come from a two-Party system. “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” George Washington went on to call this “hyper-partisanship,” and is what we are witnessing today. Even John Adams (President Washington’s successor), stated that “a division of the republic into two great parties” would result into a “political evil.”

Robert has a great sense of duty to restore and preserve everyone’s ‘equal protection under the law’ (14th Amendment) by fighting against those who would polarize Americans. No American, regardless of their financial ability, race, gender, color, religion, sex, sex orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, or veteran status should be discriminated against. On a personal level, discrimination for where a person comes from, who a person is, or what they believe in should never be a basis for discrimination - this is just human decency and a characteristic of a good person.

The Declaration of Independence mentions, “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Equality is the pursuit of ‘equal’ dignity or mutual respect for all men - regardless of who they are. Equality (as it is now) cannot be legislated or a coercion from government.

Robert has had many years of experience researching and applying advanced technologies for the defense of the United States. He has studied cultures, economics, and world religions that has influenced his understanding of current political turmoil.

Robert believes that Utah needs a Senator that has a diverse amount of experience so that the right decisions can be made. Between China, Iran, Russia, North Korea, and the ongoing debt debacle, Robert feels there needs to be a Senator capable of applying tactical solutions to strategic problems.

It is important that more politicians have an understanding of the impact Generative AI and deep learning models will have on our society. It is important to Robert that Congress has specific oversight as AI is implemented within government, industry, and academia. Between the ethical application of AI to specific deregulation to ensure innovation can be harnessed, Robert is dedicated to helping others understand the value and importance of AI and the potential impact it will have on our future.
